Season 2, Game 6 recap

Zuricalaw.com v. Quik Release
8/12/08
Loss

Zuricalaw.com'ers present and game grades

Zosh (B) - Great defensive game against their big man, but couldn't get into the flow of the offense

Zuricalaw.com (D-) - putrid game highlighted by some sloppy lazy passing, only his decent D prevented an F

Betancourt (B) -Mike had a bunch of errant passes of his own but played solid after missing a week and almost single handedly sent the game into overtime.

Ahmad (A+ for softball 4-4 with 2 dingers, B- for basketball) - Wasn't as assertive for 2 full halfs as is his usual M.O.

Anicito (C+) After his career game of a few weeks ago has come back down to earth. The thing that stood out for Mike last night was nothing stood out. Not a bad game, but like ahmad didnt assert himself against the host country as he shouldve.

Joe H (B) - grade gets elevated for the clutch free throw shooting. Joe, like the others, played a steady game and didn't stand out but he gets a B cause he definitely did some things last night to keep us in the game.

Noel (B) - Noey also had a non eventful game but like Joe did more than enough to keep us in the game.

This season hasn't turned out the way we would've liked but its all a part of the growing pains for the lawmakers.

The game started out ok for the lawmakers and then quickly disintegrated once your fearless captain zuricalaw.com himself entered the game. That was the story throughout. Go on a nice run and then Zurica comes in to screw it up. Now I know I was atrocious but alas there was still blame to go around. A few of the paralegals also had their share of turnovers. Ill try to highlight the pros and cons of this one in the next few paragraphs.

So it was the redeem team vs Beijing (plus Samuel dalembert). Average height of the Olympic hosts was 5'5" but with dalembert it jumped to around 6'2". Sporting their very own bobby Schroeder aka the backboard breaker the quik releasers played a great first to keep it close. Sporting our first full squad all season I felt all first half that we were just going to go on an old school husky run and take the game over. But for some reason that run never came. Probably mostly due to the horrid play of yours truly, the alleged point guard, we just were never able to get into any flow. Big Sam just played havoc with the middle even as zosh and Joe played some great d against him.

The second half had more of the same as the lawmakers played well enough to hold a slight edge for most of the half and then just played ridiculously sloppy to let the host country team to take a decent sized lead. At that point the crap (point) guard yanked himself and once again the paralegals went on a nice run.

It was a run that helped them almost pull off an amazing and dramatic victory. Some clutch fouls and some clutch plays gave us the opportunity to tie with 5 seconds left. We put the ball in the hands of our best shooter and made him go to work. He pulled a three from midcourt and miraculously got fouled in the process. While I had both sneakers off ready to go home and watch I Love Money for the 4th time mike was calmly sinking the first two shots. At that point I was retying my kicks and 100% ready to go out there and redeem myself in overtime. Unfortunately the last shot rimmed out and we went home losers by the final of 72 - 71.

I know this recap seemed bleak but on top of all the bad play we did sprinkle in a few highlights. First and foremost we doubled our point total from last week which is a perfect indication of how needed noey and mike b are. Also we played some decent half court d. A lot of their buckets came on fast breaks and our loss of concentration at times. Also we hit a huge number of free throws today with Joe h hitting a flurry of them in the second half.

While the playoffs may be out of reach let's try to finish strong and get back to .500. Next season we really will be the redeem team and we will rise like a phoenix.

Zurica out.
