We lost...to a pretty good team.
We'll see them in the championship game.

Season 3, Game 6 Recap
Zuricalaw.com v. Ball Above All
Tue 10/14
Players present and Game grades
Ahmad (A) - Scoring machine. Just has a talent for getting to the basket and finishing...on the left side, of course.
Mike B (DNP) - Coaches decision to keep him out of the game because it was old fashioned basketball with no three point arch.
Zosh (A) - another great rebounding game. Because of the small court he ran the floor with the guards and got a shit load of easy layups.
Josh (B) - Keeps the opposition on their heels. He moves the ball and is not afraid to shoot.
Bergs (B+) - Ran the floor nicely and made the open jumper.
Joe H (A-) - What can you say about a guy who grabs defensive rebounds and cleans the offensive glass? i say its imperitive to have someone on the team like that!!
Anicito (B) - special assignment game. Filled the gaps defensively.
"Now we know the key to winning; No Zurica" - J. Herron
It was a beautiful Tuesday night on the lower east side of Manhattan as the Lawmakers took the court against the undefeated Ball Before All. The Lawmakers were missing two key players in their pointguard Anthony Zurica and killer outside shooter Mike B. On call was Mike Anicito as he made his debut with the old team as a fill in. Anicito went on file to say this: "It was nice to see all the guys again. Allan Houston is getting his chance with the Knicks, the Lawmakers gave me mine tonight". As teams filled the gym all realized that it was going to be a throwback to the early 60's as there were no three point field goals posted since the arch was not on the court. Just weird.
After trailing 2-0 because of the shirt technical, the Lawmakers opened up strong. They immediately attacked the basket. The charge led by Ahmad who bulldozed his way to the basket and finished nicely. The team also fed the big men inside as Zosh and Joe H. had their way in the post. More importantly both team members ate up most rebounds and had a bunch of put backs. Ball Above All (BAA) was a team that was small but scrappy. After the Lawmakers had a 15 point lead in the first half, BAA came whirling back and had a bunch of open looks that they made and the Lawmakers went on a small scoring drought. The game was actually tied at one point 28-28. That was when Bergs started making his jumpers to give the Lawmakers a bit of breathing room. The first half ended with Ahmad making a half court shot with the clock running down. But after the refs reviewed it on instant replay, the basket was disallowed.
In the second half the Lawmakers put on the man-to-man defense. It was Ahmad, Bergs', and Josh's defense that held their shooters at bay. It was also Zosh who ran the floor on the fastbreaks and received open looks when the defense collapsed. Zosh finished with 24, 12, and 1 scuffle with another player.
It was a good win for the Lawmakers as they shed any type of let-up or blown leads. It was a good night.

Zuricalaw.com (DNP but earned an A+) - First ever recap player to earn a grade when not at the game. Zurica had his best game of the season by not being there. Stat line: 0pts, 0rebounds, 0turnovers = 1 assist in the win.

Season 3 , Game 5 Recap
Zuricalaw.com v. Killer Comedians
Win
Tue 10/7
Players present and Game grades
Zuricalaw.com (A-) - Good decision making, limited his turnovers and hit some shots
Ahmad (B+) - Obviously we are a much better team when Ahmad is on the court, we win when he's there and lose when he isn't, period.
Mike B (A-) - Grade this week is solely based on initiating layup lines
Zosh (DNP) Didn't want to miss last nights 90210
Josh (B) - When he doesn't hesitate can stick the mid range jumper with the best of em.
Bergs (A-) - Huge three point play highlighted a solid game from this soldier
Joe H (B) - Would have liked Joe more involved in the O, but the game wasn't going his way last night, however grabbed enough boards to build a house.
"Keep on with the force don't stop" - M. Jackson
Game got off to a late start since the Comedians showed up about 15 minutes late. But it was no bother to the lawmakers since they instituted their new pre-game ritual of that crazy invention, the layup line. This helped catapult them to a strong opening half. Mike B came out raining shots, Ahmad attacked the basket and the rest of the squad played with the fire that was sorely missing last week.
The Burgundy Attorneys built up a nice 20 pt lead in the second half only to see it get chopped down to 6 due to lackadaisical play. However, Bergs wasn't about to let last week repeat itself and he came back in the game and calmly brought some much needed stability to the court. The boys in red wound up winning by about 10 and these are the types of victories we need in order to show this league who's boss.
Major negative of last night was our free throw shooting. I've seen better free throw shooting from the 3rd graders I used to coach at Our Lady of Pity. This needs to be corrected or the only thing we're winning is a one way ticket out of the playoffs. Also, were those 2 refs last night especially bad, or was it just me?
Next week, we play one of the only 2 undefeated teams left, so I'm sure we're all gonna need our A games.
Also, I'll see everyone on Sunday for the big 2-9!

Season 3, Game 4 Recap
Sorry guys but I'm super busy this week. Heres the recap: we played down to the level of the comp, didn't take them seriously in the second half and somehow they came back to beat us. Everyone gets a default D, except Bergs gets a D- cause some skinny indian kid ran by him like he was a statue. (sorry bergs)
Ok fine, i get a D- also for blowing 2 layups after 2 great passes by Bergs and Josh.

From a distance....
I just wanted to check in on my old team...As many of you know I had to leave for a hiatus due to scheduling conflicts. As I read Zurica's recaps after each of the last three wins, I want to say I am very proud of you guys. I am hopeful that Anthony will achieve his life long goal of having the perfect season. However, it does seem a little tainted since you're playing in the retard division. I want to see you guys tear through this year and get into a division next season where the talent is a step up from the fourth grade level. Great job and good luck.

Season 3, Game 3 Recap
Zuricalaw.com v. ING
Win
Tue 9/23
Players present and Game grades
Zuricalaw.com (A-) - Huge first half, hittin layups all over the place, but played a little sloppy in the second half
Ahmad (B+) - Played great D on their only scorer
Mike B (A-) - Hit some daggers
Zosh (B+) Stuck a few of his patented foul line jumpers
Josh (B+) - Again, played great D and helped move the ball on offense
Bergs (A) - Scored what seemed like the first 20 points of the game
Joe H (B+) - Again was steady as a rock
it's our time. It's our time down here. - Mikey (Goonies)
So they dropped us down a division, it doesn't mean we can go out and just lay down and die thinking our good looks alone will win these games. Ive been proud of our team thus far in that even when these obviously inferior teams mount a comeback, we've been able to just tighten up the D and prevent them from having any hope.
So, the second game in a row with a full squad. I'm very impressed with the attendance thus far. Its given us the opportunity to always have fresh legs out there which helps stop any long bouts of complacency during the game.
The game started off on the right foot with bergs coming out firing. The lawmakers took a big lead and never really looked back. Zuricalaw got in the mix with some nice driving layups and steals on D. Mike B banged some open 3's and nice 5 footers. Joe, Zosh and Ahmad controlled the paint all night and really put the clamps down on the only true baller on the opposing squad. Josh had a nice game at the top of the key, stopping their "shooters" from getting any shots off and he contributed to what was the crispest passing game I've seen out of the legal team.
All in all, it seems like we are thus far the class of this division and a nice 8-0 record is within sight. I'm very optimistic for this team this season and I know I won't be let down.

Quick update
Our 2 opponents on the year are averaging 27 points. We are either the newest version of the Knicks circa 1994 or we are playing some bad, bad competition.

Season 3, Game 2 Recap
Zuricalaw.com v. TRADECARD WORKS-N-PROGRESS
Win
Monday 9/15/08
Players present and Game grades
Zuricalaw.com (B) - Wasn't assertive on offense as stated loudly by Joe, but had zero turnovers for maybe the first time ever
Ahmad (B+) - Attacked like a beast but needs to start hitting his open threes
Mike B (B) - Was off from downtown but scored from 5 feet all night
Zosh (B) Held his own against Muresan, but his mind was more on the boys and birds last night
Josh (B+) - Played suffocating D and picked us up when we needed
Bergs (B) - Slightly hesitant at first, but then hit a few long threes and some nice drives
Joe H (B) - Played a Joe game, controlled the boards and didn't hurt us anytime he was on the court, if this was hockey he'd be +15
Press on. Obstacles are seldom the same size tomorrow as they are today. - Robert H. Schuller
Game 2 on the quest for an undefeated season. The lawmakers walked into the gym and some 6'10" guy was throwing down monster dunks. Alas it was the last time their team would put the ball thru the hole for about 20 minutes. I literally thought we could have shut them out if we tried really hard. They actually wound up with about 24 points which amazed me, considering the rim could have been about ten feet wide and they still wouldn't have broke thirty.
As for our squad, I know some guys were pissed that we didn't win by 30 and that it seemed like we didn't go for the kill all game, but I beg to differ. We did exactly what we needed to do to win and everyone played a good game absent some mental lapses here and there which are
expected when you play a team like that. I liked mikey b, ahmad, and bergs attacking the basket strong at times, I liked josh gettin all up in their grills as soon as they passed halfcourt, and I really liked Joe and zosh keeping almost every rebound in the air and giving us a lot of second chances. What I didn't like was my ugly airball. (I didn't forget it bergs).
We're one quarter of the way to our goal of an undefeated season and I know that somewhere along the road we're gonna run into a tough team, but I think if we play like we are capable there will be no way these teams will beat us.

Season 3, Game 1 Recap
Zuricalaw.com v. TAKIN' YOU TO SCHOOL
Win
Tuesday 9/9/08
Players present and Game grades
Zuricalaw.com (A-) - played suffocating D and limited his mistakes
Ahmad (A-) - They had no answer when he drove the lane
Mike B (A-) - Had a quiet night, but played very steady
Zosh (A-) Was a little rusty but played very tall last night
Josh (A) - showed crazy hustle and basketball instincts
Bergs (A) - Also brought a new dimension and energy to the squad
Joe H (DNP) - Finished his first dualathalon on Sunday (on the Wii console)
“The first step towards getting somewhere is to decide that you are not going to stay where you are.” - anonymous
The first game of the new season for the lawmakers and we are now the
burgundy team. As most of the Staten islanders on the team know that
was the color of the only non-heterosexual high school on Staten
island (apologies Ahmad and Joe). I tried getting us black but there
seems to be a waiting list for that color so burgundy it is.
The game was very close at the beginning as the hockey team we played
against subbed in and out like Wayne Gretzky was their coach. Funniest
comment of the night goes to newbie Ryan who said "they found 20 guys
to play on a team but they couldn't find one over 5'5"" they literally
has 12 guys on the team that looked like the exact same player.
The 2 new lawmakers paid huge dividends in their debut performance,
really helping me look like Donnie Walsh and not Isiah Thomas. Josh and Ryan
as expected brought a significant and much needed intensity the whole
time they were on the court. The alley oop play between myself and
Ryan will work this year, I guarantee it. I didn't want to mention this
but Ryan had to keep his airball streak alive. Let's hope he breaks it
next week. As for josh, other than a few small miscues, I thought he
played a tremendous game and fit in seamlessly with his enormous
hustle and fine play. My only critique is that he look for his shot
more but that will definitely come with time.
The legal holdovers also played really well tonight. Your fearless
leader and turnover prone point guard actually had a minimum amount of
miscues tonight and 2 will be attributed to the wet ball. Ahmad
attacked the lane as usual and the hockey team really had no answer
for him. He dictated play most of the night. Tanzosh was a little
rusty from the field but dominated the boards against his hobbit like
opponents. Betancourt really wasn't asked to carry us offensively
tonight but he hit a few big shots in the first half that set the
tone.
The Boston bruins never really challenged us at all in the second half
and we coasted to our largest victory in a while
All in all it was a great win for zuricalaw.com and I hope it spurs is
on for a great season and that elusive championship

BREAKING NEWS

For those that don't know. Our very own i/o (inside outside) destroyer Mike Anicito has decided to sit a season out.
He gave a wide range of reasons:
- His arm hurts? (he got a boo-boo)
- He has class? (what is he 12?, 35 year olds are supposed to be done with school)
- He feels his game is slipping.
I'm going to go with number 3. Mr Anicito wanted to take a season off to get his game up. While that is commendable his team will still miss his grittiness and occasional displays of offensive prowess.
Get better Mike, Zuricalaw.com will welcome you back when you return from your Michael Jordan-like self-imposed exile.
Free Agent Signing announcement

Brief intro post for the 2 new paralegals.
First up is Josh Scher. On a personal level Josh was born and raised
on the mean streets of Staten island but now calls the lonely island
of Manhattan home. Josh can be considered a rabid Yankee fan but we won't
hold that against him.
On the court Josh is known as a 21st century Anthony mason. He's a
tenacious on the ball defender and can also attack the rack with the
reckless abandon of those early 90's knicks. Van gundy would say of
Josh- "the kids motor never stops".
Josh is a great addition to the lawmakers as he will bring a jolt of
energy to a team that at points last year lacked the intensity at
times to go for the jugular.
The second big free agent signing of the Donnie Walsh era is Ryan
Kalleberg or Bergs. Bergs currently lives in Brooklyn but legend has it
his game was forged on the dirt roads of an Indiana hick town a la
Larry bird.
Bergs had a very poor airball to make ratio in his first game as a
lawmaker. But he promises to never repeat such a showing.
On the court bergs also brings that much needed intensity to our squad
and I look forward to learning more of his game and also teaching him
the ways of the lawmakers.
Good luck to both of these guys this season.
Season 2 recap
This is going to be very brief.
I was disappointed this past season. Not with my teammates at all, just with the way the season went. Bottom line is our team is way too good to not make the playoffs and I expect nothing less than a first place finish in the fall season.
We did make some strides as a team from the first season, but the attendance week to week is what really did us in at the end. It always seemed like we missed one key player each week. Obviously theres nothing we can do about that, but the guys that are there can't worry about whos not there, we just have to go out and compete.
I have full faith that Zuricalaw.com will have a bounce back year and finally wear the crown.

Season 2, Game 8 recap
Zuricalaw.com v. Team Cheese
win
8/25/08
Team members present and grades
Zuricalaw.com (A-) - limited his turnovers and had an efficient game. The quality of some of our offensive sets were a result of the non-turnovers
Joe H (A-) - Played awesome down low and grabbed a ton of boards. .5 grade reduction for not being as aggressive on offense as usual
Noel (A) - hit some dagger threes
Mike B (A) - see above, mike and noey shot the cheese out of the gym
Ahmad (A-) His usual sparkplug self, played some nice d
Naim (A-) - Grabbed a ton of boards, but was triple teamed most of the game and couldnt get his shots off
The End - The Doors
So a very mediocre season comes to an end. Ill do a full season recap soon. But as for mondays game lets just say, we would not be 4-4 if we played like that every week. Team Cheese was a playoff squad and we dismantled them like they were the Swiss.
Noel and Mike B just obliterated three point records monday night. Naim and Joe H patrolled the paint and grabbed more rebounds then the entire Team Swiss. Ahmad and yours truly played solid mistake free ball and it all added up to a huge victory for the lawmakers.
The only downside to the game was the abysmal free throw shooting. We literally went 2 for 30 on free throws and that is a joke. We will never win close games with that shooting. Alas, we built up enough cushion to withstand a late run and pulled out the W to finish the season on a high note and also at .500. Which I'm proud of, for all of us. Between the injuries and missing games by key players, it was a tough year, but I know we'll bounce back.
New member intros and season end recap will follow.

Season 2, Game 7 recap
Zuricalaw.com v. Eyeblasters
Win
8/19/08
Players present and game grades
Zuricalaw.com - (a) limited his turnovers and scored a season high
Tanzosh - (a) smooth game and did the honorable thing and sat himself to help the other team
ahmad (a) - had more slashes than leatherface
ryan k (a-) - admirable first effort with the lawmakers, but gets a reduction for the 2 nasty airballs..
mike a (a) played his game
joe h (a) also played his game
The true measure of a man is the honor he shows his enemies on the battlefield - anonymous
So this one was a real laugher for the boys in tan. The eyeblasters (i wont say what that means because people like anicito haven't graduated to adult euphemisms yet) only had 4 to start and the legal eagles took great advantage of this in the first half. It got so bad that zuricalaw.com was calling timeouts just hoping a 5th guy would show up for the other team and zosh even removed himself from the game so we could play 4 on 4. Even then the game was lopsided. They really only had one guy that knew what a basketball was and it led us to our biggest and easiest victory of the season. Setting us up for our goal of finishing .500.

Season 2, Game 6 recap
Zuricalaw.com v. Quik Release
8/12/08
Loss
Zuricalaw.com'ers present and game grades
Zosh (B) - Great defensive game against their big man, but couldn't get into the flow of the offense
Zuricalaw.com (D-) - putrid game highlighted by some sloppy lazy passing, only his decent D prevented an F
Betancourt (B) -Mike had a bunch of errant passes of his own but played solid after missing a week and almost single handedly sent the game into overtime.
Ahmad (A+ for softball 4-4 with 2 dingers, B- for basketball) - Wasn't as assertive for 2 full halfs as is his usual M.O.
Anicito (C+) After his career game of a few weeks ago has come back down to earth. The thing that stood out for Mike last night was nothing stood out. Not a bad game, but like ahmad didnt assert himself against the host country as he shouldve.
Joe H (B) - grade gets elevated for the clutch free throw shooting. Joe, like the others, played a steady game and didn't stand out but he gets a B cause he definitely did some things last night to keep us in the game.
Noel (B) - Noey also had a non eventful game but like Joe did more than enough to keep us in the game.
"I've failed and failed which is why I succeed" -Michael Jordan
This season hasn't turned out the way we would've liked but its all a part of the growing pains for the lawmakers.
The game started out ok for the lawmakers and then quickly disintegrated once your fearless captain zuricalaw.com himself entered the game. That was the story throughout. Go on a nice run and then Zurica comes in to screw it up. Now I know I was atrocious but alas there was still blame to go around. A few of the paralegals also had their share of turnovers. Ill try to highlight the pros and cons of this one in the next few paragraphs.
So it was the redeem team vs Beijing (plus Samuel dalembert). Average height of the Olympic hosts was 5'5" but with dalembert it jumped to around 6'2". Sporting their very own bobby Schroeder aka the backboard breaker the quik releasers played a great first to keep it close. Sporting our first full squad all season I felt all first half that we were just going to go on an old school husky run and take the game over. But for some reason that run never came. Probably mostly due to the horrid play of yours truly, the alleged point guard, we just were never able to get into any flow. Big Sam just played havoc with the middle even as zosh and Joe played some great d against him.
The second half had more of the same as the lawmakers played well enough to hold a slight edge for most of the half and then just played ridiculously sloppy to let the host country team to take a decent sized lead. At that point the crap (point) guard yanked himself and once again the paralegals went on a nice run.
It was a run that helped them almost pull off an amazing and dramatic victory. Some clutch fouls and some clutch plays gave us the opportunity to tie with 5 seconds left. We put the ball in the hands of our best shooter and made him go to work. He pulled a three from midcourt and miraculously got fouled in the process. While I had both sneakers off ready to go home and watch I Love Money for the 4th time mike was calmly sinking the first two shots. At that point I was retying my kicks and 100% ready to go out there and redeem myself in overtime. Unfortunately the last shot rimmed out and we went home losers by the final of 72 - 71.
I know this recap seemed bleak but on top of all the bad play we did sprinkle in a few highlights. First and foremost we doubled our point total from last week which is a perfect indication of how needed noey and mike b are. Also we played some decent half court d. A lot of their buckets came on fast breaks and our loss of concentration at times. Also we hit a huge number of free throws today with Joe h hitting a flurry of them in the second half.
While the playoffs may be out of reach let's try to finish strong and get back to .500. Next season we really will be the redeem team and we will rise like a phoenix.

Special Tourney recap
5th Annual New Springville Basketball Tournament
Just wanted to give a quick recap on this weekends tournament. I figured since everyone on our squad had a team, I would write something up.
Zuricalaw.com teams :
Noey, Zosh, Joe (+ jimmy v) - This squad, with the help of a former husky (jimmy v), did a tremendous job in their inaugural entry into the Anicito/Zurica yearly tourney. They went 2-1 in the round robin and lost a hard fought battle to the tournament founders in the playoffs.
Ahmad (+ 2 buddies) - Ahmad is a former champion of the tourney and by the luck of the draw, he had probably the hardest road to another championship. Without the all out play of his brother and lack of height, Ahmads team finished a disappointing 0-3 in round robin and lost a tough one to Betancourts squad in the playoffs.
Betancourt (+ 3 buddies) - Mike B vowed that this was going to be the year his team won it all. He even recruited a stud PG for the occasion. Dressed in their UNC blues, Mikes team fought hard to finish 3-0 in the round robin and secure the 2nd seed for the playoffs. They made it all the way to the championship round and played an amazing game against the eventual champions. Back and forth all game, Olsens team eked out a win in overtime 15-14. Mikey B had the potential game winner rim out and he goes back to jersey again realizing that Staten Island Basketball is just too good for out-of-towners.
Zurica/Anicito (+ Bobby s) - Our squad finished 1-2 in round robin play and then made a valiant effort to reach the semifinals of the playoffs. We lost a close one to the eventual champions. Their centers height was just too much for us to handle.
Congrats again to Olsen who has now won our tourney 3 out of 5 years. Thought the day went especially well and thanks to all who participated.

added by AZ - If we dont win out, the playoffs are out.
added by JH - Very Close game and had tons of chances to win but we didn't score thelast 4 minutes of the game if I remember correctly. They had some size at every position except the 1 guard and had a guywho could score.

Season 2, Game 4 Recap
Zuricalaw.com v. Edelmania
7/22/08
Loss
Team members present and game grades
Zuricalaw.com (C+) - didn't have too many errors, but didn't assert himself at all on either end of the court. Needs to get in much better game shape.
Noel (B-) had some nice shots and played solid, just not enough (as with the rest of the team)
Mike B (B-) Had a good game shooting, but was one of 3 that tried and failed to stop the Hebrew hammer from scorching us on offense
Ahmad (B-) Another third of the Hebrew hammers victims. Tried to assert his will on offense, but just another case of not enough for the zuricalawyers
Joe H (B-) Combined with our other big man to miss a total of 79 layups and put backs. Other then that played some nice D, but was petrified of the 2.5 mile court
Gantor (B-) Made his debut with the boys in tan and had a decent game. As aforementioned, combined with Joe to pull a 2 half Charles Smith Act.
Zosh (DNP) - Went to tenjune with Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher
Anicito (DNP) - was too scared to come back to earth after his career game last week and decided to skip the match
"I have a bad feeling about this". - Han Solo
Noel and I arrived at the gym (or dungeon) pretty early and as we were sitting there, a few teams showed up. Out of the three other teams there it was obvious as to which one I wanted to play. Their team was talking about google/microsoft for about 20 minutes and they had a guy that looked exactly like the kid from Family Guy that wan
ts to date Meg (see pic).
Unfortunately for us, the kid turned out to be the second coming of Ray Allen. He scored about 45 of their 73 points. I've never seen someone shoot that well. He made Anicitos game of last week look like little league. And even besides the Hebrew Hammer, the rest of their squad also shot about 95% from the field.
You guys know I hate recapping losses, so I'm not going to go that much further, but some of the problems last night were poor rebounding, not getting back on D, not hustling on offense, missing easy buckets, etc... With all that we did a decent job to cut the lead to 44-40 at the beginning of the second half, but it just seemed that for every 3 we made, they made 4 more. It goes without saying Mike and Mike would have made a big difference last night. Also special thanks to super sub Gantor for coming down and helping us out.
I know i didn't emphasize how ridiculously big that court was, but lets just say the Steve Prefontaine would have taken one look at it and said "damn".
Right now, we're 2-2 and we honestly cannot afford too many more losses if we want to make the playoffs. Next week we have a much needed bye, so lets rest up and come out strong for the second half of the season.

Season 2, Game 3 Recap
7/15/08
Zuricalaw.com v. Bugle Boys
Win
Team members present and game grades
Zuricalaw.com (B) - Had some nifty passes and played hard all game. Deduction in grade for forcing a few too many passes
Tanzosh (B+) - Has become a clutch foul shooter, who woulda thunk it.
Joe H (B) - Played his game, but didn't stand out as much as normal.
Ahmad (B+) - His hustle was exactly what we needed. Helped stave off a few Bugle boy runs
Tommy P (B+) - Came back to the court after a ten year hiatus and gave us quality David lee type minutes
Anicito (first half B-, second half A+, overall A) Tale of two cities with mike in this one. He looked disinterested in the first half, then somehow played like a modern day larry bird in the second half. I mean, for the love of god, the kid had a 4 point play. Hasn't been seen since the days of grandmama.
Betancourt - (DNP) Back spasms caused by heavy lifting of Styrofoam cup at work
Noey -(DNP) Playing little league (Didn't little league end when we were 13?)
"Excuse me are those Bugle Boys jeans you're wearing?" - random sexy 80's model
Last night was all about 2 things, the near brawl and Anicito having the game of his life. Before the game he must've asked Zoltan from the movie BIG if he could be "the guy" for once in his life. Mike was actually "the one guy we have to stop" according to the Buglers. "This guys killing us", "Someone guard him", "He's their only shooter". These were some of the other comments heard. Mike was praying that this game was caught on tape somehow so he could show his kids somewhere down the line that he actually played "out of his mind" at least once. Kudos to Mike, I haven't seen shooting like that since i borrowed Tommy P's Peter North tape last fall.
As for the second big thing in last nights game. Zosh and graybeard from the other team went toe to toe about 3 times. It looked like Tyson, Holyfied was about to go down. My favorite part was when graybeards cousin had to step in and defend his honor cause "that's my cousin your messing with". Good job to get in their head Zosh.
Back to the game, huge thanks to our super sub Tommy P for stepping in and giving us some nice defense and much needed breathers. Tommy wanted me to remark on his dunk, but unless you're talking about that oreos and milk last night, I must've missed it.
Ahmad, Joe and yours truly all played solid games and it was just one of those times where we looked like a well oiled machine for pretty much most of the game. Probably one of the more enjoyable games I've played in a while. Although, i must say, 9:00 games are rough. I felt like a zombie waking up this morning.
Well, we're back over .500 and I don't plan on falling back under. Lets keep it up. Next week we play at a nicer gym I hear, so I'll see you all then.

Season 2, Game 2 Recap
7/8/08
Zuricalaw.com v. Wheres Kenny
Players present and game grades
Zuricalaw.com (C+) - major hindrance caused by his torn calf muscle of a week ago.
Betancourt (B-) - once we hit the good basket, mike started hitting shots, but it was too little too late
Joe H (B-) Made some nice plays offensively and defensively in the second half, but again it wasnt enough to stave off defeat
Tanzosh (B) Kept us in the game throughout. Played huge, but jinxed himself by proclaiming he is a 100% free throw shooter
Josh S (supersub) (B-) Earned his ten day contract, played with hustle and tenacity, made a few sloppy plays, but it was his first organized game since 99
Ahmad (DNP) - had a date with Ashley Dupre
Anicito (DNP) - Was out in strong island fishing
Noel (DNP) - Went 2-4 in his slow pitch underhand beer drinking full contact softball league
"the whole is greater than the sum of its parts" - zuricalaw.com
As I spoke to some of you guys about last night the similar characteristic of every basketball game I've lossed in my mens league career is very easy to explain. When we have our full squad or at least a sub, we win 9 out of 10. When we are down a guy or 2 is the only time we lose, its as simple as that. Obviously we all have other things to do so I know full attendance at every game is never possible and I've accepted that after years of frustration, but it still sux when we lose to a squad that would have been destroyed if we had anicitos rebounding, ahmads intensity and noeys threes. It wouldn't have been close.
And that's no offense to the five strong we had there. The simple fact is that a few of us, me mostly, after my injury, needed a blow. They were able to trot out 2 fresh legs every few minutes and we were running on fumes at the end. It didn't help that the gym was about 900 degrees.
As for the game itself, you know I hate recapping losses, but I'll give a quick word. Josh stepped in and gave us huge and quality minutes on super short notice. This game really came down to hustle and shooting. In the first half, the blue squad shot on their good rim and hit almost everything while we couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. In the second half, we switched places and their shots were just as off as ours. However, we were too far behind to make it all the way back. We valiantly cut the lead to 5 with 2 minutes left, but a few missed free throws and sloppy play did us in.
I honestly hope we get to see this team again as there is no way they should be sitting at work right now thinking they are better than us. Its simply not true, with our three amigos present, we win that game by double digits. Again, I'm not trying to make an excuse, but that game just left a bad taste in my mouth.
Thanks again to Mr. Scher for coming down and helping out.
So, it looks like we wont be going undefeated but I'll take another 7-1 record. Unfortunately, there will now be no NOBU due to the loss, sorry mike.
Same time next week, lets avenge this loss.

Thoughts on last nights draft
Firstly, the Lopez brothers are weird and may be significant idiots. ESPN had a mic on Brook Lopez and did a montage of the idiotic things he was saying all night. Firstly, he said that the whole thing was boring?! Boring? Are you kidding me, this guy is about to get drafted into the NBA and he's bored? Reason number 1 I thank god he's no where near the knicks.
His second best line of the night was when he asked who the Nets GM and Coach were after he was drafted. Are you f'ing kidding me? How could a potential lottery pick not now every coach in the league especially of the team that wanted to draft him? What a friggin idiot. Also, courtesy of tommy p - http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/writers/kelli_anderson/02/20/lopez0225/index.html . Read that article, gives you a glimpse in to the Lopez lunacy.
On to the Knicks, Danilo Gallinari is now the future of the Knicks, and I am surprisingly not disappointed. I heard the Knicks are making a play for Felton from the bobcats and I like that move also. If we can get rid of Randolph or Curry, this will be a successful offseason.
The draft pretty much went as expected and I'm glad the Knicks took a risky pick rather then one of the combo guards. I was also surprised as to how dominant Rose looked in his highlights.
Other draft thoughts:
- Why bother drafting guys that will never play in this league?
- Arthur helped his exposure immensely by being the last one in the green room. The guy is now loved by everyone that ever rooted for an underdog and honestly, the guy has awesome Pro written all over him.
- Was it me or did every draft pick look like he was about 17 yrs old and have the body of a string bean.
- The Lopez brothers are idiots and their voices are weird as hell.
- Kansas had their top 5 players drafted, what a solid and underrated championship squad. I'm not even sure who will be the best pro, but Arthur and Rush are gonna be in the hunt for rookie of the year (maybe even chalmers) if they get significant playing time.
- The Nets are now a huge huge team. Their front line is now Kristic, Lopez, and Yi, all over 7 feet. They are going to surprise next year if Harris develops.
- Portland made about a hundred moves yesterday and I love the depth they have on that squad. With Oden back they might be one of the favorites in the West.
- While I like Westbrook, I really think the Sonics should have went Love. Love, Green, and Durant would have been a high scoring and awesome front line.
- Has Arthur been picked yet?
- I love how all the International players just came to the draft and sat in the crowd.
- One of the tall foreign guys (i forget which one) had stats of 5.0 ppg and 5.3 rpg in the French league. How can those numbers possibly translate to the NBA. I really feel like you can only draft a foreign guy like the Rooster (Danilo) who absolutely dominates his league. 5ppg, really? Are you kidding me?
- Joey Dorsey, CDR and Ewing Jr will all be solid pros out of the second round.
I'm sure I'll have more thoughts later, but thats it for now.

Season 2, Game 1 Recap
6/23/08
Zuricalaw.com vs. MPI
Game Present & Member Grades
Zeke (A-) – played the point well and didn’t force the issue. Also showed his offensive game and attacked the basket.
Mike B (B+) – made his shots and limited his turnover plague.
Anicito (B-) – missed a few easy ones.
Ahmed (C+) – attacked the basket but there were too many turnovers and one-on-fours for the teams liking.
Zosh (A) – played big defensively. Also finished the offensive glass and even made free throws down the stretch.
Noey (B) – had a nice game from beyond the arch.
Joe H (DNP) – sunbathing on the Tijuana coast with his new Mexican mail order bride.
“Young boys take no care, and never finish off their things with shadows” – Leonardo DaVinci
Zuricalaw.com started the new season against the one and only foe from last year’s division, MPI. Team captain and acting sponsor of the league in 2022, Ant set out a lofty goal for the team, to go 8-0 and win the championship. No member disagrees with the possibility of this happening, especially since the team upgraded the roster. Noey was resurrected like a cast member from Michael Jackson’s Thriller video to join the club after Jeremy’s abrupt departure. Noey gives the team another three-point threat, which alleviated Anicito from his delusions of developing that part of his game. MPI had also upgraded their team significantly and got out on zuricalaw real quick. MPI opened an 8-1 lead in the opening five minutes. Ant’s dreams were slipping away like the Ohio River Valley. The conditions of the game were however a major part of the reason for the team’s struggles. Item number one, the game ball: usually the team is without a quality basketball. And last week Ant went out and used some of the company’s petty cash to purchase one of the best balls available, the TF-1000. The ball was brand new leather and was slippery at the start. Item number two, the heat: The gym was literally a sauna. Anicito admits to sweating more than any human being should sweat, but last night he could have watered an acre of central park if he rung out his shirt. It was bad, even Anthony had sweat marks, and he never plays hard enough to sweat. So, between the moisture in the gym and the new leather, the ball was slick. So slick that it was hard to handle, slipped off the backboard, and felt really nice when rubbed gently on your inner thigh, well that’s what Anicito said.
Zuricalaw.com gained ground on MPI and eventually traded baskets for much of the first half with MPI. Both Anicito and Zosh missed some wide-open layups. At one point Anicito made a nice move to the baseline, beating his man but completely blew the layup. Zosh cleaned up an offensive rebound but the ball slipped right off the glass. Ahmed’s dilemmas came more on the handling end as he tried his kamikaze drives that usually get him to the line but last night the pokes were getting the ball away from him. The first half ended on a big three point shot by Noel as he slid into the offense like sybian.
The second half opened with zuricalaw.com dominating. Mike B turned on his offensive spout. Zosh was huge, literally and figuratively, on the defensive end. Ant attacked the basket with no fear and more astonishing, finished. Noey punished the defense with his three. Things looked like smooth sailing as zuricalaw had an 8-point lead with ten minutes to play. That was when the cards started to fall. A couple of lackadaisical defensive stands let MPI’s most ugly shooter knock down open threes and we were forcing too many passes that turned into turnovers. It was all of a sudden a two-point game with less than a minute to play. An inbound on the sideline was guarded intensely by MPI and Ahmed made a quick move to get open, only he forgot that you cant go behind the half court line, its called a BACKCOURT violation. So with twenty seconds left, MPI had the ball down by two. MPI did a nice job holding the ball to kill some clock. A three point shot went up that would have given MPI the lead but was missed and Zosh grabbed the board and was fouled with six seconds left. With ice water in his veins, Zosh made both free throws securing the win for zuricalaw.com. These free throws may seem understated, but readers should note that Zosh is 8 for his last 46 from the line.
Zuricalaw.com got their first win. Hopefully we can continue and not let Anthony down. He said that if we go undefeated and win the championship he would take the team out to dinner at Tao. Ask Noey, he said that!

Season 2 goals
Sometimes I know I get a little ahead of myself when it comes to predictions. A lot of things could derail a season, just look at my beloved Mets as case number 1. However, I have full confidence in our squad to greatly improve in season 2.
My goal for this season is lofty. 8-0 record and a Championship. I know it doesn't get any better or any harder then that, but I know this squad is very capable of such a goal (barring catastrophic injury of course).
I'm not trying to put any pressure on us, but we need to set this high goal, because we should have done this last season and now we are a season wiser and more importantly, we are all healthy and hungry.
Let start it right tonight!

Welcome to the newest Zuricalaw.com member
As all of us presently on the squad got our Intro paragraphs last season, its time for Noels.
As we all know, we lost one of our own in the offseason (which was a pretty long offseason - 6 days) Jeremy has moved onto greener pastures. With that though, we welcome a long time Husky (Zuricalaw.com's previous incarnation) back into the fold.
Noel, no offense to Jeremy is a huge upgrade off the bench. He can get on fire with the best of them. In his younger days he was more of a shooting point guard, now he's probably more of a combo guard in the mold of a Joe Johnson, he can shoot the lights out of the building on occasion but he can also bang down low and play a forward if we are in a 2-3 zone. Zuricalaw.com won't skip a beat when this sharpshooter is on the floor.
Lets all give Noel a nice welcoming tonight by abusing one of our only league member teams to return, MPI.

Season 1 in Review
So here is the first official Season in Review for Zuricalaw.com.
Basically I'm just going to give a final grade for each team member and brief recap of all things good and bad throughout the season.
Team Members
Zuricalaw.com - B
I really thought I would have had a better year, but between my ankle being sprained, my 2 trips to the ER and just overall pushing my body to the limit for no reason like an idiot, I never really put it all together on the court. The funny thing is that whenever I played ball outside the league I would play with so much more confidence and overall better play. I need to find a way next season to bring that to the team. There was a point during the season that I was ready to hang it up (due to injury and horrible horrible play) but my heart is back in it 100% and I'm ready to vastly improve on my season 1 performance.
Anicito - B+
Mike played his steady usual game throughout the whole season. I was very impressed by his ability this season to step out and hit his 15 footers with a lot of consistency. At most times throughout this year Mike was the first or second best player on the court at all times and that's a testament to his will to win. Considering I taught him everything he knows about the game it made me proud that he has stepped up the way he did. However, like the rest of the team he needs to enter a Free Throw intensive training program in the off season.
Ahmad - B+
The true testament to Ahmad was in the games he was absent or sitting on the sidelines. Our team lacked that extra step, that extra drive or that extra hustle that is always present when he is in the game. Yes, he may love his patented spin move a little too much, but the energy he brings is infectious and he was an awesome Gm acquisition by myself with a little help by Anicito. On the downside I'd like to see more consistency in his three point shooting. It seems some games that he can never miss and then others where the basket seems like a pinhole on his threes. All in all great first season for Ahmad and I look forward to playing a lot more with him.
Betancourt - B+
I've been playing ball with Mike since I was about 12 years old and I probably could count on maybe 4 hands how many shots I've ever seen the kid miss. He always came up with the big three when we needed it most. The thing that most impressed me though this season was his commitment to winning. Mike and I have been playing ball forever but never in an official league. Tells a lot about an individual when he cares about winning even in a league that has no reward at the end besides the self satisfaction we can personally attain. I'll take guys like that on my team every day. My critique of Mike is that sometimes he even needs to be more selfish with his shot. If he's open he needs to take the shot, period.
Zosh - B
Big Zosh, our anchor in the middle. I call him the Big fundamental. Obviously Mcneese did a good job teaching basketball to at least one person as Zosh always knows what to do and where to be on the court at all times. Especially against a zone we need Zosh in there as he is prolific at passing out of the high post and finding an open man. Ive also never seen someone hit that foul line turnaround with such ease. As for the critique, Zosh needs to join his fellow staten island basketball coaches and start a free throw clinic for themselves. ( i mean, between zosh and joe and mike, they've taught over 300 kids give or take and yet they only shoot 50% from the line. From now on, when you do free throw drills with your kids, you take the same amount of free throws.)
Joe H - B
The third big free agent acquisition of the anti_isiah Gm (with an assist from Zosh). Big Joe stepped it up huge in 3 or 4 games this season and practically carried our team to victory in them. Sometimes he'd hit a turnaround or a driving layup and I'd just shake my head not knowing how the hell he just hit that shot. Not at all implying it was luck, but just saying that when he wants to turn it on he can be the best player on the court. He also added a real nice down low presence to the squad that we sometimes lacked in our previous incarnations. My critique of Joe is that sometimes he tends to get lost in the shuffle. While the times he plays big, he plays monster big, but then the times he loses focus its almost like he just goes through the motions. We need to find a way to keep that fire for a full 48 minutes. Without it needing to be said, this was another great signing and I look forward to playing with Joe for years to come.
Doster -B-
Listen, Jeremy knew his role on this squad and he never tried to do more then he could handle. He went in there and valiantly played his part in helping us to an overall 7-2 record. This was Jeremys first exposure to league play (ever!) and after his first 2 games getting three second calls, he slowed the game down for himself and really did not make too many errors or hurt the team when he was in the game. I know he is leaving us this season, but I want to thank him for his contributions and wish him luck in his future basketball career. To J, drop a line with the team on the blog whenever you want. Thanks again.
Well that's it. All in all an almost great year. I wont call it great until we win something but 7-2 is nothing to sneeze at. This was a transitional year for Zuricalaw.com as we had to incorporate 4 new players and next season we only have to bring on one, but at least hes an old face that most of us have played with before. Noel will get his own introduction post before the first game, so Ill fill you guys in on him later.
Special thanks to Pina and Mary Beth who attended almost every game and gave us some great moral support.
Thanks for a good season everybody and lets go out and do the same (well slightly better) starting next week!

While the times he plays big, he plays monster big, but then the times he loses focus its almost like he just goes through the motions. We need to find a way to keep that fire for a full 48 minutes. Without it needing to be said, this was another great signing and I look forward to playing with Joe for years to come.

Playoff Recap 6/17/08
Zuricalaw.com v Evolution
Zuricalaw.com is ousted from the first round
Members present and grades
Zuricalaw.com - B Could have brought more on the offensive and defensive end and had a killer turnover at the end
Ahmad - B+ Abused Evolution in the first half, but then couldn't get it going against their zone
Zosh - B+ While he wasn't feeling well, he came to play and did a good job on the boards
Joe H - B Had a few real nice offensive moves, but his game was a slight notch down from his last 2 dominating performances
Betancourt - B Never really settled into a rhythm which was partly the fault of the rest of us
Mike B+ Played a great game, but gets a deduction of half a point for his free throw shooting
Doster - DNP couldn't get off the couch after his friends bachelor party at chuckie cheese which coincidentally was also R kellys acquittal celebration party.
I'm going to make this a short post about the game and then have a bigger year end recap right after this.
Some may argue that despite everything, we should have won this game. Their scorekeepers probably took a good 8 points from us. In hindsight it was my job as unofficial GM to handle that situation and I didn't step up and do it and for that I apologize to my team. I should've had one of our guys at the table the whole time. It just stings that much more because it was the playoffs.
As I was telling Mike, I don't think we played a bad game, it wasn't our best game of the year, but looking back we did enough to win. Bottom line is that the other team did that much more to get their own victory. We could have and should have done a lot of things differently.
We seemed lost on D at times. We had no answer for their zone in the second half. We didn't get our best shooter involved enough at all throughout the game and these are things we just need to work on and I'm confident that in subsequent seasons we will be that much better at it all.
It was our first season together and I had a lot of fun, but I'll leave this stuff for the next post.
Anyways, good game everyone and don't get too comfortable, our first game is next week!

Playoffs have been set!
Revenge will be ours. Our only loss of the season was against our now first round opponent EVOLUTION. We didn't have our heart, our intensity, one Mr. Ahmad Oloumi. These guys thought they should've beaten us by 30, but little did they know, they are about to get smacked down.
Date: Tuesday June 17th
Time: 7:00pm
Place: Julia Richman 3 68st/2ave (this is the gym with the super low ceiling, where we played our second game)
Opponent: De-evolution (i know i have amazing puns)
Lets try to get all our fans (MB and PZ, and anyone else who can bring someone) and get this place rockin. Zosh, I think you need to coax our JCC lucky charm out for this one.

Game 8 recap 6/10/08
Members present and game grades:
Zeke (B+) – limited his turnovers and play well defensively.
Mike B (A) – Killed it on the three-point shot and made a couple of big free throws, with the exception of the first two for the technical foul.
Ahmad (B+) – spin move spin move spin move. The guy was aggressive.
Joe H. (B+) – Hit some tough mid range jumpers and rebounded well.
Jeremy (B) – played well defensively, lost half a grade for a three second call.
Mike A (B+) – Made his jumpers and battled on the defensive end.
Mike T. (DNP) – Ant farm convention in Tulsa.

What is it about a school’s gymnasium? The smell, the lighting, the size and conditions of the court, the newspaper cut out of professional athletes, or just maybe the NY Knicks poster of Sprewell, Camby, and Houston?. If you’re like me, it reminds you of your days back at whatever elementary school you attended. For me, it was the gym exercises that I, as a pudgy kid, could never complete. For example, there was no way I could climb that rope. There was no chance of me doing pull-ups. I was usually the one who did push-ups from my knees with the girls. So for me, and probably Joe H as well, walking into each of these gymnasiums brings back a slight feeling of nausea.
But when The Lawmakers take the court and play the game God loves, a.k.a. basketball, all those butterflies spread their wings and flutter away. Last night’s game was the last of the regular season for the newly constructed Zuricalaw.com team. Only one loss in the regular season and trying to keep it that way. They took the court against an opponent who stumbled in their first few games but came in on fire, winning their last four matches. The Lawmakers were without their own Bill Wennington as Michael Tanzosh was not in attendance. This did not bode well for the Lawmakers since their opponents’ average size was 6’3.
The Lawmakers came out in a 2-3 zone defense and really were not doing a good job rebounding the ball. With Anicito, Joe H, and Ahmed in the front court, they were simply not big enough to eliminate second chance opportunities. As the first half went on, the Lawmakers controlled it. Mike B made some huge three point shots, while Joe H hit some off balance seven footers. Zeke handled the ball in delicate fashion, keeping the turnovers to a minimum. Right now he is fighting for his point guard position as Joe H and Ahmed feel they should be handling the ball more. Team officials are slightly worried about the number of coast-to-coast maneuvers taken by both Joe and Ahmed. They will review the game tape and probably give them a pass considering the court was so small. In any event, the Lawmakers controlled much of the first half until turnovers and lack of rebounding caught up with them. As the first half came to a close, the Lawmakers only held a one point lead.
Anicito recommended that the team switch from zone to man defense. The thought would be that everyone has someone to constantly box out. Jeremy stepped in and did a nice job of denying his man of open looks. Overall the team did a fabulous job in their man defense. It broke up easy looks and got us fastbreak opportunities. Anicito hit a couple of open jumpers while Mike B continued to break their backs with his dagger three point shot. The Lawmakers won this game on second half defense in my opinion. It was a hard fought win. It was also a nice way to go into the playoffs. It looks like our 7-1 record will get us a slot as the second seed.
I just wanted to recognize a couple of people who have shown support for the team throughout the year. Anthony’s wife Pina has made 84% of the games this year and played a pivotal role in stepping up to help distract the opposing teams or just moving our bags from one side of the gym to the other. Mike B’s girlfriend Mary Beth has been a stalwart. She has attended almost every game with the exception of one, only because she was in China. And she is always vocal on the bench, something that I know gets Mike B going, in more ways than one. Great job girls. Ahmed, get Erica to at least one game next season, if not the playoffs.

Game 7 recap 6/3/08
Zuricalaw.com Vs. Brandy Room Bandits
Members present and game grades:
Zeke (A-) – Didn't try to force the issue as much as he could've, missed some easy ones, but threw some sparkling assists
Mike B (B) – His long range touch someone was transferred to the Love Guru on the other squad, but hustled his way to the B grade
Ahmad (A-) – Groin is no longer an issue as he took it to the rack with authority
Joe H. (A+) – Played his best game of the year and stepped up and made some HUGE shots down the stretch to keep the game out of reach.
Mike T. (A) – Played his typical Chris Kaman like game, but his grade gets boosted by the almost alley-oop dunk
Jeremy (DNP) – rumor rolling thru the crowd that he was at the 10pm showing of Sex and the City.
Mike A (DNP) – Went to Bar A to hang out with 17 yr old girls. Was searching for his soul, then ultimately realized you cant find it at Bar Anticipation.
Spartans, Tonight we dine in Hell! - Leonidas
Our movie quote of the week aptly described the conditions in which we played last night. While the court itself was actually pretty decent, it felt like were playing ball in the 9th circle of hell. It was sweltering in there.
Zuricalaw.com came sprinting out of the gates, I honestly thought we were going to have to mercy rule the Bandits. However, two guys on their squad decided to steal Mike B's powers like in the latest installment of the Fantastic Four movie. They were literally en fuego considering it was an easy 103 degrees in the gym. The game was close throughout due to the decent play of the only two decent playing Indians I have ever seen play roundball.
Basically this game came down to Big Joes ferocity and his attitude that we were not losing the game. Essentially, whenever the Whiskey bandits made a run, Big Joe stepped up and hit a huge three, got a huge rebound or made a ridiculous driving layup. He played like Kobe will have to if the Lakers want to win.
The other members of the 5 man zuricalaw.com squad all contributed in their own way. Zosh hit some key 5 footers, ahmad hustled all over the gym, zurica made a mini-steve nash impersonation on some driving dishes and Mike B, realizing for the first time that you cant shoot 93% from behind the arc every game, showed us the other assets in his repertoire, which consisted of cutting up their zone and playing tight D.
2 special shout outs.
- I have wanted to throw an alley-oop to Zosh since probably 1994 and finally 14 years later it happened. It want a dunk mind you, but it was as close to a dunk possible that his 29 yr old white ankles will allow. Kudos Zosh and thank god for the high tops as you may have seriously injured your ankles last night if you were still wearing the 1995 asics.
- To Pina for being a great scorekeeper. Joe pointed out the brief flirtation with the Love Guru, but I'm gonna chalk that up to the fact that she was just distracting him and throwing him off his game.
In what will be a new feature for the recaps, Mike and I will be handing out a game ball to that games top contributor.
This weeks Game Ball goes to : Big Joe (well earned sir)
One more game before the playoffs. Lets keep the momentum going. And Mike B, if the hammy is barking, just rest up for the playoffs.

Game 6 recap 5/19/08
Zuricalaw.com Vs. World's Tallest Mexican
Members present and game grades:
Zeke (A) – Other then a few missed easy layups and being a little winded this was the best game for me this season.
Mike A (A) – Boarded with intensity and scored on layups and mid range jumpers, pretty much set the tempo on both ends of the court in the first half
Mike B (B+) – Missed the first half due to parking issues, but played his usual game of hitting huge threes in the second half and helped pack the zone D in
Ahmad (B+) – his groin was a slight hindrance again and his shooting display of a week ago just wasn't there tonight, but he played some great D, sweeped the boards and showed some guts by playing injured again
Joe H. (A) – solid all around game, played real big down low and came up with some huge rebounds
Jeremy (B) – gets a B just for not getting a three second call alone, but also played some solid D and threatened to get on the scoreboard for the first time, all in all, made no errors in a game where he was forced into huge minutes.
Mike T. (DNP) – Was in California working on the Tupac investigation
Happiness Is a Warm Gun - John Lennon
Our song of the week is a reference to our sharpshooter joining us at halftime. At times it felt in the first half as we were holding down the fort until Mike B came to shoot the tall Mexicans out of the gym. Everyone played great in that first half even though our lead should have been much much more then what it was.
Playing against one third of the comedy troupe Human Giant from MTV (if you dont know them look it up, their pg looked exactly like one of the comedians), zuricalaw.com pretty much toyed with them for much of the first half. Joe and Mike beasted them down low and ahmad played a much more cerebral game after last weeks shooting display. Even jeremy is finally starting to take on the zuricalaw.com swagger.
Taking a small lead into the second half, the boys in green welcomed the appearance of their own ray allen to the contest. Mike B came in and promptly laid down his three point gauntlet and helped us tighten up the D.
The game was never in serious doubt and our record now stands at a strong 5-1. 2 more regular season games left and then its time to avenge our loss in the playoffs.
My only complaint about yesterday was that i was slightly disappointed that we didn't encounter a 6'5" Mexican.
Oh well, theres always next year.
REMINDER -no game next week
